When Jennifer moved to Richmond, she was looking for a way to get involved in her new community. Through Family Lifeline’s ElderFriends program, she was matched with Florence, who is in her nineties. Florence welcomed Jennifer into her home, often talking to her about her three children, ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Jennifer began to bring her young daughter along for visits. “We get as much out of it as Florence does,” Jennifer says, when asked about the program. Most of Jennifer’s family lives in New York, and she finds great comfort in her visits with Florence.

Florence’s granddaughter, Debbie, expresses a similar sentiment. “Knowing Jennifer was coming by really spiced up her day,” Debbie explained. “It also benefitted me, knowing that someone was going by there when I couldn’t, just to make sure she was doing okay.”

The friendship that blossomed between Jennifer and Florence is a true testament to the importance of friendly visitation programs. These women have embraced the program in a way that truly makes a difference – multiple generations at a time!
