This was a big year for Family Lifeline as we celebrate 140 years of service to our community. In many ways the milestone reflects an achievement worthy of celebrating (and celebrate we continue to do), but it also reflects business as usual, the business of bringing health and hope into the home. Even in a major anniversary year, we continue to measure our progress through the success of the individuals and families we serve—their success is our success. That was true in 1877 and it remains true in 2017.

Early Childhood Programming – Working two generations at a time to ensure children are healthy, safe, and ready to succeed in school.

  • 1,263 families representing 2,010 moms, dads, and babies received intensive in-home support in the City of Richmond, the City of Petersburg, Chesterfield County, Hanover County, and Henrico County.
  • 100% of families participating in early childhood programming remained free from child abuse and neglect, even though a large percentage of participating moms reported a history of abuse and neglect—suggesting a break in the generational cycle of violence.
  • 94% of enrolled children have a medical home, helping to insure that children receive consistent ongoing well-child care and are not using the emergency room as a primary source of care.

Home Care – Promoting health and wellness in the comfort and safety of home

  • Family Lifeline’s professional home care teams provided more than 28,000 hours of care to home-bound older adults and people with disabilities. Those services were delivered in the comfort and safety of client homes delaying the need for institutional care.
  • Family Lifeline’s program saved the community over $816,000 by delaying placement in costly institutional care.
  • 98% of individuals enrolled in our older adult programs did not experience falls or fall-related injuries while in Family Lifeline’s care

Visiting Volunteers – Promoting independence by providing companionship

  • Family Lifeline trained volunteers provided 3,075 hours of volunteer service to seniors including in-home friendly visits and support to 82 home-bound senior and participant-volunteer matches.
  • 84% of home-bound seniors say they feel less lonely thanks to the companionship provided by Family Lifeline volunteers.
  • 100% of participants reported that their volunteers gave them emotional support when needed.
